March 2017 Release Week: Modern Petunias with Joni

Hello everyone, Joni here, and welcome to our March 2017 Release previews! All of the new products that we will be sharing with you over the next couple of days will be available for purchase beginning March 5, 2017 at wplus9.com as well as at many of your favorite retailers.

We've had an overwhelming request to focus on florals again. And this release does not disappoint. Our floral focus this month is on Petunias. And whether you prefer bouquets, single outlined images or stamp layering, we've got you covered. But don't worry, we've rounded out the release with a bit of cute too!

Today, I'd like to introduce you to a floral set that you are going to fall in love with! The Modern Petunias stamp set and Modern Petunias Companion Die:

The simple clean lines on this set make it unbelievably versatile. Each image has plenty of clean open space to really allow you pack in your own detail if you'd like, but also contains just enough detail to carry the most simple of coloring.

I chose to go the latter, with just a bit of coloring.

To begin, I first distressed my card base with Tim Holtz Distress Ink in Tattered Rose. Next, I splattered the card base with gold watercolor paints from Gansai Tambi Starry Colors, I used the Blue Gold in this project. I then stamped (using Coconut Husk) and die cut several of each size of the Petunia and leaf images. To color them, I used Ciao Copic Markers in G000, BG10, W-0, and W-1.

To create the frame for my card, I used the Sunshine Layers Die, nesting the rounded corner rectangle inside of the scalloped mat and then ran it through my die cutting machine. I distressed the bottom of the frame to match my card base and added foam tape to pop it up off of my card base. Next, I stamped the large "thinking of you" sentiment included in the set in Coconut Husk as well. I arranged the petunias and adhered them with foam tape. To tie in the gold splatters from my background, I added some watercolor gold paint to the center of the flowers.
