Black And White Birthday w/Kara

Hello! Today, I thought I'd have a go at taking a feminine set - Flock Yeah! - and giving it a masculine feel.

Now, I said I was going to challenge myself not to use black on my next project and I failed. Even though I failed my personal challenge, I was successful in creating a card that I love. These flamingos in shades of black and gray look so cool! As they say, If it ain't broke, don't fix it!

I started stamping my background by placing the main flamingo in the center of my card panel. Working off that main image I stamped vertical rows of flamingos. I stamped them head to head and toe to toe. I knew that center flamingo was going to be my focal point so I stamped and die cut another and colored it with gray Copic markers (T1, T4, T6). I added black Copic coloring to all of their beaks and some clear Wink Of Stella because it just looks so pretty. I finished off the design with some party accessories and a sentiment from Oh My Gostrich! (the "brother" set of Flock Yeah!)

Speaking of Oh My Gostrich! This design would look equally as great swapping out the flamingos for the ostrich.

Hopefully this gives you some ideas. Take a look at your stash and see if there are any "feminine" sets that could fit a masculine theme just by switching up the colors.

Watercolored Anemones w/Kara

Hello again friends!  Today I have a birthday card to share using the beautiful Watercolored Anemones stamp set. This is an easy to use multi-step stamp set that creates stunning flowers in a watercolor style. One of my favorites!

I started by stamping the large bouquet image in a very light grey ink. I used Fairy Dust ink. This creates a base for lining up all of the other stamping, but in the end doesn't show. With that light base as a guide it is super easy to add all of the other layers of the flowers, stems and leaves.

I chose Last Leaf and Appletini ink for my stems and leaves. I love these two colors together. I'm sure at this point you can tell which colors I used for my flowers. They are my all time favorite Pure Color combination ; Little Piggy, Sweet Gelato and Cranberry Crush accented with a little black center.

I added my sentiment using the 'happy birthday' from And Many More and the word 'friend' from Modern Anemones. I wanted the sentiment to stand out more among the flowers so I added a frame from Autumn Blessings. I colored in the frame with a black Copic marker and then added some shimmer with a clear glitter pen.

As one final detail I added a strip of black glitter on black card stock to the right side of the card panel. It's subtle, but in the right light really shines!

Par-tay! Masculine Card w/Kara

February is a very special month. It's my first nephew's birthday. I can't believe his is turning 23! I have had so much fun over the years making boy cards with cute little animals and balloons, but now need something a bit cooler and more grown up, but still fun!

I started with a white card panel and positioned masks in the center that I created using the Whimsy Alphabet Dies. On top of the masks I did my stamping using the Ink Splats stamp set. I chose Lake House, Bo Peep, Falling For Blue and Nautical Navy Dye Ink.

I removed the masks and gave the ink a little time to dry before stamping the sentiment. I used Strictly Sentiments 5 to create a custom sentiment by pairing two stamps from the set.

Once all of my stamping was done I felt his name, Ryan, didn't stand out enough. ; I decided to use the same Whimsy Alphabet Dies to die cut the letters from the stamped panel. I backed the panel with black cardstock and popped the letters up back in position. This way the sentiment matches up perfectly and the name is more prominent.

Masculine Card & Mirror Technique w/Kelly

Hello Crafters! It's been a hot minute since I made a masculine card but when that someone special in my life told me "You've never made me a card" I knew I'd have to figure something out.

Since coffee is kind of a mutual love for us, I started with the Cookies & Cocoa set. That mug was perfectly sized for the idea I had.

It's a party mug!

I thought it would be super cute to incorporate our love for coffee into his card by making his mug celebrate his special day. I used the mirror technique to get both his and hers mugs.

Once the mugs were stamped I trimmed out a mask for the mug but I needed the negative instead of the positive so I could use all the party images to decorate his bug. I started with the Big Top Background then stamped the party hats and stars from the Unforgettable set. Once that was done I stamped the letters to spell out "His". I used the same mask flipped over to stamp the "Hers" on the other mug.

I used the Basic Labels and some simply masking to create a "Happy Birthday" flag for his mug. Of course no birthday is complete with a few balloons to celebrate. Once the stamping was complete I went to work with my copic markers.

I love the shine the glossy accents adds! I think this a really fun idea, to create an inanimate object that's celebrating those special days. This would work with a lot of different options. Cars, drinks, any hobbies that person might enjoy. What do you think?
