Hi there everyone! It's Lydia from Lydia Evans Design here, and I am so excited to be here guest designing on the Wplus9 blog. Dawn's awesome designs are what got me into stamping. Fresh Cut Florals was the first 'proper' stamp set I bought and I have been a fan-girl ever since.
I started with a white woodgrain piece of cardstock measuring 4" x 5 1/4". I have used the beautiful Outlined Roses Die to create a 'Faux Partial Die-Cut Cover Plate Look'. I started by taking the smaller of the roses in the die set and placed this into position on the piece of cardstock. This technique works a little like masking so you want to die cut the pieces/images in the foreground first and then work backwards. The image you cut first will be full and the others behind it will have parts missing. We will be using the outline piece of the die-cut so the petals will be waste, although you could use these for a different project.
Once the first rose is cut, I then cut another two with parts of these going over the other piece I had already cut, in a way working like a mask would in stamping. After die cutting the roses and leaving these to the side I then cut the bud images, and then the leaves. It does take a little time cutting the design bit by bit but it’s worth it- you need to remember to work from the foreground to the background as the images you cut first will appear more forward as they will be most full.
When I was happy with the arrangement, I adhered what was left of the white woodgrain cardstock onto some ombre patterned paper measuring 4 1/4" x 6" (I trimmed it down to 4 1/4" x 5 1/2" once I had finished putting the pieces back together). I then put the die-cut outlines back from where they come from, it is very much like putting a jigsaw together and I find that it works better if you work from the inner edges of the die cutting (so the leaves and buds) and then work your way across and things just slot into place nicely.
For the sentiment I used Fanciful Feathers, I love the beautiful font of these sentiments. I heat embossed the 'thank you' in platinum embossing powder onto some of the same woodgrain cardstock and matted this onto a piece of the ombre patterned paper. I added some white cotton thread behind the sentiment before adhering it to the card with foam tape. To finish the card I added a few sparkling clear sequins.
