November 2011 All Eyes On: Season of Thanks

Whew! Monday is over. Thank you, Monday is over! I don't think I am ever going to be a fan of Mondays. How about you? Are you a fan?

Today is the 20th, do you know what that means? It's "All Eyes On" time! And after our little hiatus from this feature, we are all back and this time we are taking a look back at an older set.

Season Of Thanks

This is one of those sets that I don't use as often as I should, it has all of the staples for the fall season. Maybe it's because it is a fall set, and as I've said before, I'm not a fan of the fall palette. But, I did discover that I LOVE these colors when you throw in a little blue! And now I think I will be using this set MUCH more.

I couldn't help but use the A Pocketful Die to stuff with a few pumpkins. I absolutely LOVE this die. It is so versatile, and I was so happy to see that the pumpkins are perfectly scaled to fit inside of the pocket. I added some leaves inked in green and then rolled along the edges in orange to complete the fall feeling.

By the way, the stitching on the pocket was supposed to be straight and neat, but....I went all crazy crooked, and instead of starting over I decided to be lazy and just go with it. ;o) I hope I was able to give you a little inspiration. If you'd like a little more, head over to see what the rest of the Design Team has for you.

Design Team Feature: Savitri Wilder

Today is our final September Design Team Feature, and we have the very talented (and witty) Savitri Wilder wrapping it up. She has a good dose of color and CAS to share with us.

"I love these new sets from WPlus9!! There are so many things one can do
with these, from cards (like my example) to school goodness. I've always
loved stationaries and I remember growing up always looking and stroking
at lovely stationary pretties (especially the ones from Japan). It's
probably why I love paper so much. It reminds of my younger days when I
could just admire and maybe get one thing if I was good. Now I am a mom.
While the girls are not home schooled girls I like to work with them at
home, yes even the 2-yrr-old does "school" at home. I have lots of plans
with this set and I hope you visit my blog between now and the next
release to see what kind of things I've done with them :)"

~ Savitri Wilder

I always love the simplicity of Savitri's work, and the fact that she usually has a few quips or a story to share as well. Click through to Savitri's blog for more on this project.

Thanks so much for joining us for the September Release. And we hope to see you for the October Release. The ladies have already professed how much they love the next release. I hope you do as well!

Design Team Feature: Jean Martin

We are back today with another Design Team Feature. Today we have a special treat from our resident shabby chic-er Jean Martin. Jean's creations are always very soft and feminine, so I was particularly excited to see her put her spin on A Pocketful: Halloween.

"I just love Halloween! It's the perfect excuse to have and give some candy away! Now don't get me started on the cute costumes we see the kids parading in each year. I remember how extravagant the house decorations were in our village back home in the Philippines. And even here, now that I'm in New York, I can't believe how far people take their decorating to! It's just a completely fun holiday. :)

Which is why I was absolutely taken with A Pocketful: Halloween. The images are soooo cute! I actually found myself using it with another WPlus9 stamp set; Hope Seed Co.. That's how versatile it is. You just have to see it to know what I mean..."

~ Kathy Martin

I love the nostalgic color combo and how she cleverly used the frame from Hope Seed Co. Click through to Jean's blog to get all of the details.

Be sure to stop by again tomorrow for our final September Release feature.

Design Team Feature: Lea Lawson

This week we have even more Design Team inspiration to share with you. Today I have the pleasure of featuring Lea Lawson. Lea is the queen of color in my book. And today's card is no exception.

"I LOVE school themed stamp sets and papers...I find myself purchasing it even though I have no children, let alone school aged children!! I really loved school growing up. I loved learning, I loved being with my friends, and I loved extracurricular activities {especially cheerleading!}. I have realized that I am going to be the coolest mom when our time does come to have children...especially in the encouragement department. It must be the natural cheerleader in me- tee hee!! I think that Class Act is a MUST HAVE in your stamping artillery, along with Design Basics: Classroom Backgrounds. While they make amazing school themed projects, I see hundreds of other possibilities for them too! Thanks for checking out my project today!"

~ Lea Lawson

I'm really diggin' her girly choice of colors paired with Class Act. It provides an unexpected and welcome break from the usual primary colors associated with the school theme. Click through to Lea's blog to get all of the details.

Be sure to stop by again tomorrow as we feature another member of the fabulous Wplus9 Design Team!

Design Team Feature: Elise Durenberger

I am having so much fun featuring the Design Team this release! And today, I get to share a fun ensemble by Elise. I always look forward to seeing what Elise serves up each month because she always manages to make me see the potential in a stamp that I had completely missed.

"My favorite, favorite thing about this month's stamps...is ...EVERYTHING! I mean, seriously - WHAT'S NOT TO LOVE? So many sentiments and so many IMAGES! I've combined A Pocketful and A Pocketful: Halloween along with some classic Wplus9 stamps. Come see how I've recycled denim to cut a REAL pocket for my stampy delight and created a window with a Halloween inspired sky. I'm ready to indulge myself with some pre-season CANDY CORN and a Pumpkin Spice Latte! Hope you'll join me - for ALL of the above! Happy stamping!"

~ Elise Durenberger

Just head over to Elise's to get the low-down on her creative process and the details for each of her projects above.

This week has been a blast! Next week we will have more Design Team features from the September Release. I hope you find time to make it by!

Design Team Feature: Cristina Kowalczyk

Happy Thursday! Hope you are all having a wonderful week. It's been a little hectic here, we've had a switch up with the schedules at school due to budget cuts. So poor Hunter had some teacher changes and it's been kind of disruptive. But this too shall pass, right?

Thanks for stopping by today, I'm so glad you did. Today, Cristina is sharing one her September Release projects with us.

"In our house, the Halloween talk has already begun (anyone know how to make a Skippyjon Jones costume?), so when I saw the A Pocketful: Halloween set this month, I thought I’d get an early start on some easy treat bags. I bought small kraft bags and stamped them with this cute bat image. I added a few stars from A Pocketful, too, and then traced a glue pen along the areas where I wanted glitter. I love that the stars match the tiny star in the middle of the sentiment. A little matted cardstock and some baker’s twine finished it off. Fill them with a few chocolates or a mini candy bar and you have a perfect way to share Halloween treats with all the little goblins in your life."

~ Cristina Kowalczyk

I don't know about you, but I love quick and easy ideas for any type of holiday treats. Having two boys means double the class treats, and "nothing fancy or frilly mom!". These are perfect, thanks for the fantastic idea Cristina!

Stop by Cristina's blog to find out more about this card and to check out the rest of her release projects.

Thanks for stopping by and have a wonderful day!

Design Team Feature: Kerrianne Gwin

Kerrianne will also be sharing her September Release projects all week long over on her blog. Today she has chosen a cute project to let me feature here on the Wplus9 Design blog using A Pocketful.

"I was inspired by the sentiment for a true blue friend - someone who's there for you through thick and thin. I wanted to incorporate lots of shades of blues to tie in with the sentiment, so I dug through some scraps of card stocks and patterned papers. I distressed the denim pocket cut from the die with scissors around the edge and then stamped the stitches with white craft ink. A feminine card with a touch of toughness for a true blue friend!"

~ Kerrianne Gwin

Stop by Kerrianne's blog to find out more about this card and to check out the rest of her release projects.

Thanks for stopping by and have a wonderful day!

Design Team Feature: Jinny Newlin

Jinny will be sharing her September Release projects all week long over on her blog. Today she has chosen a cute project to let me feature here on the Wplus9 Design blog using Class Act and Design Basics: Classroom Backgrounds.

The shriek that came from my mouth when I first saw Class Act and Design Basics: Classroom Backgrounds could’ve been heard at least two blocks away; and believe me, none of you wanted to see the happy dance that came next. Being a former teacher, just about anything related to the back-to-school season makes me giddy happy.

So as soon as these treasures arrived in my mailbox, I went right to work turning my son’s homework notebook into something he could be proud of. I really wanted to do those spirals up right with ribbons galore, but he said that would be way too girly, and wouldn’t even hand it over until I assured him that I would leave the spirals alone. By the time he got it back though he was all smiles. His gasp when he first saw my version; priceless.

I’d love to have you all stop on by my blog to see the before picture and get the low-down on the how-to. Hope to see you there!

~ Jinny Newlin

You really should head over to Jinny's blog to find out more about this fun project and how she put it together. She has really come up with some clever uses for Design Basics: Classroom Backgrounds in particular.

Thanks for stopping by and have a wonderful day!

September 2011 Release Day 4

It's day 4 of the September Release and today I am introducing our final stamp set for this month. If you are just joining us, you can catch up by starting from day 1 here. Today's set is an addition to the fantastic A Pocketful set that I introduced yesterday.

A Pocketful: Halloween

  • is a 4x6 clear photopolymer stamp set
  • contains 11 stamps; 4 images and 7 sentiments/sentiment builders.
  • will be available for purchase September 5th for just $13

Are you ready for a couple of projects to better acquaint yourself with this set? First up is my not-so-scary Halloween card.

This card was so easy to put together. I started with the A Pocketful Die.

I then stamped the spider web stitching onto the pocket, embossed it in white, and added some real stitching around the edges. For the cream focal panel, I stamped the spiders in black and adhered the pocket below them with foam tape. I love how friendly these little spiders look! After assembling the card base, I added my sentiment "creep crawly Halloween wishes" and some stars.

This is my kind of fun and cute! Fun and cute, but still sophisticated. What do you think?

Next up, a fun tag that shows how these sets can be used as more than just pocket fillers.

Again, another one that came together in the blink of an eye. I started by distressing a white tag using Antique Linen and Tea Dye (Ranger Distress Ink). I stamped the flying bats from A Pocketful: Halloween directly onto the tag. I added some random stars from A Pocketful and layered some patterned papers underneath.

To finish off the tag, I added a tag using the "Batty" sentiment and a "for you" stamped strip, all from today's set.

Would you like to win A Pocketful, the A Pocketful Die, and A Pocketful:Halloween? Leave me a comment by 10:59 PM EST September 4rd to enter for a chance. I will select one random winner from all comments. Winners will be posted here.

Thank you so much for joining me this week! Our entire September release will be available tomorrow Sept. 5 at www.wplus9.com. I will be back today at 6:00pm with the Full Reveal of everything previewed this week. Thanks again!

September 2011 Release Day 3

It's day 3 already of our September release, and I am so excited to finally be able to share this set with you! I think you will love today's set and coordinating die as much as I do. I am happy to introduce to you A Pocketful and the coordinating A Pocketful die.

A Pocketful

  • is a 6x8 clear photopolymer stamp set
  • contains 32 stamps; 4 pocket images, 11 accent images and 17 sentiments and sentiment builders
  • will be available for purchase September 5th for just $19

A Pocketful Die

  • coordinates with A Pocketful stamp set
  • comes on a single die that can be easily snipped and separated
  • small pocket measures approx. 1 5/8" squared; large pocket measures approx. 2 5/8" squared
  • will be available for purchase September 5th for just $9

First, I just have to say that this set is jam packed with possibilities. It's a great all around, all occasion set to have on hand. It focuses all around pockets, and things to fill those pockets! For my first card, I wanted to send someone a little sunshine to help them on their way to recovery.

Isn't that just the cutest?! The set contains both a small pocket and a larger pocket. Most of the images are scaled to fit in the smaller pocket, but with some layer or masking, they can fill the larger pocket too. I started by die cutting several pockets using the A Pocketful Die.

You'll notice that this die has little connectors holding it together. These can be left in place or easily snipped and then sanded if you wanted to separate them and use them for negative cutting alone. For this card I used the small white die cut.

And stamped one of the pocket images included in the set onto it.I've included stitching details and texture on this image to make things that much faster for you to produce some realistic little pockets.

For the focal panel, I stamped the "Get Well" sentiment at the bottom, and then added the sentiment builders around it to say what I wanted. "Sending a pocketful of Get Well wishes". All of the sentiments are separate so that you can mix and match phrases and/or colors. Love that.

To get my spacing correct for my pocket filler, I layed down my die cut and then removed it to stamp my sun. I layered my focal panel over our Label Layers 2 Die and adhered that with foam tape over some ribbon and October Afternoon paper.

I think that would brighten someone's day, how about you?

OK, so remember how I said the boys pick favorites from each release? Well I usually end up with a favorite too...and this next card is it!

This one was a labor of love. The inspiration for the faux denim came from the amazingly talented Betsy Veldman. When I saw this shade of paper in my Nordic Holiday paper pad from Basic Grey, I knew I had to give it a go, but put my spin on it. I used the large pocket from the die cuts I had cut out and proceeded to stitch away for the pocket detail. I used a pair of my jeans as a guide but went quite a bit simpler.

Once I finished my stitching, I added some eyelets to simulate the rivet things on the pocket corners. (I knew these things would come in handy some day!)

I then did some paper piecing to create the waist band and belt loops and finished all of the denim off with a good dose of white washing/sand blasting.(or white ink in our world) To create the little "true blue" tag, I stamped the sentiment also included in the set onto some white cardsotck, roughed it up, added another eyelet and attached it with twine. I gave you a peek at that label earlier this week, it is also include in the set along with the "hello" and "Friend" sentiments.

I hope you have enjoyed today's previews as much as I have enjoyed sharing them with you.

Would you like to win A Pocketful and the A Pocketful Die? Leave me a comment by 11:59 PM EST September 3rd what you are most interested in seeing in the full reveal so far. I will select one random winner from all comments. Winners will be posted here.

Thanks for joining me and I hope to see you tomorrow as I preview a Halloween addition set for A Pocketful!

September 2011 Release Day 2

Welcome back to Day 2 of our September release. If you are just joining us, be sure to check out day 1 here. Today we are continuing to focus on Class Act and Design Basics: Classroom Backgrounds. Yesterday's projects showed how great these sets were for your school themed projects. Today, I wanted to show you how easily they can go beyond school for everyday use.

This first card pairs the ice cream cones from Pile It On and the matching Pile It On Die with our featured sets. Class Act comes with several options for building custom journaling cards. Here, I've used just the border. Quick Tip: I started with a 2 3/8" x 3 3/8" rectangle. I then used a 1/4" corner rounder on the corners. The journaling card images fit nicely without any extra fuss.

This is a great starting point for creating flash cards. Which is the direction I took for a 3rd birthday card.

The label and sentiment was added using A Pocketful which I will introduce to you tomorrow. ;o) (Side Note: The boys always pick out their favorite projects, and this one happened to be Carter's favorite.)

Now, lets take it off in another direction entirely! Up next, my husband's favorite. I figured it was time that I started incorporating some warmer fall colors into my projects. And though I'm not usually a fan of the fall hues, I quite like it when you add a little blue to it.

Yesterday, I mentioned that Class Act included options for a vertical or horizontally oriented journaling card. I showed you the horizontal version yesterday, now here is one option for the vertical. Again, I started by stamping just the border.

Then I added the vertical numbered list. All that was left now, was to add my title, I chose "My Favorites" for this card.

I stamped "You" from Spring Post as my favorite, and added some foliage and a bird, both from Love Birds. I layered this over an envelope cut from paper from For The Record (Echo Park) using the Vintage Envelope Die and wrapped the bundle with twine.

Would you like to win Class Act and Design Basics: Classroom Backgrounds? Leave me a comment by 11:59 PM EST September 2nd to enter for a chance. I will select one random winner from all comments from Sept. 1st-2nd. Winners will be posted here.

Don't forget, the Design Team will be joining in with more inspiration using these sets starting on the 5th! Thanks for joining me today, and be sure to stop in again tomorrow for a look at another new set and matching die, as well as more chances to win!

September 2011 Release Day 1

Hello, and welcome to Day 1 of our September Release! For those of you that are new to Wplus9, we will spend the next couple of days getting up close and personal with the products that we will be releasing this month. All previewed items will be available for purchase on September 5th at www.wplus9.com.

This month we have 4 new stamp sets and 1 new coordinating die. We are also switching it up a bit this month, I will be going it alone this week, and the design team will start joining in with their projects over the next two weeks. So today and tomorrow I am going to be showing you Class Act and the coordinating background building set Design Basics: Classroom Backgrounds.

Class Act

  • is a 6x8 clear photopolymer stamp set
  • contains 18 stamps; allows you to create multiple styles of journaling cards and more with 1 pre-built journaling card, 5 card building pieces and 9 sentiments/titles
  • will be available for purchase September 5th for just $19

Design Basics: Classroom Backgrounds

  • is a 6x8 clear photopolymer stamp set
  • contains 5 background building stamps
  • will be available for purchase September 5th for just $19

It's that time of year and the kids are all headed back to school. Class Act and Design Basics: Classroom backgrounds is perfect for documenting those memories. Now be forewarned, I am not great (or even good) at layouts. But, as tradition holds, if design it...it would be helpful if I actually used it. Right?!

My boys were NOT happy about Summer ending...but they were troopers, and put on some big smiles for me for the first day of school. The new shoes and book bags helped too. This layout kicked my butt, and my sewing machine too. So please pardon the stitching. I broke two needles in the process, I didn't even know that was possible! Let me show you some of the details.

I created the CLASS SCHEDULE tag tucked up on the top left by stamping a portion of one of the background pieces from Classroom Backgrounds. I trimmed it out and rounded the corners before stitching down. The little assignment card is the pre-built journaling card included in Class Act, I added the "A+" also included in the set instead of adding personal journaling.

The background for my title was created by stamping the primary journal lines from Classroom Backgrounds in white onto a blue strip of cardstock. These backgrounds stamps are approx. 5.75" long, making them very easy to line up and stamp across a full 12 inch piece of paper.

For my jounaling, I decided to stamp one of the interior stamps onto a tag instead of building a journaling card. It fit perfectly and makes a great accent to add a bit of personal story. Finally, keeping with the theme, I added another of the background building images from Classroom Backgrounds across the bottom of my layout in white.

Now of course, I haven't forgotten my card making roots, both sets are wonderful for card making as well!

Here I've layered two of the journaling cards on top of each other for my focal point. I used the card building pieces to create my own custom card. The wonderful thing about this is that you can create a horizontally or vertically oriented card. I will show you more detail on that tomorrow. I stamped the "Great Job" sentiment repeatedly in red ink for a watermark effect, and added the "Well Done" sentiment onto a label (more on this later this week) for my primary sentiment.

I have only scratched the surface with these sets so far. Be sure to stop by tomorrow for more.

Would you like to win Class Act and Design Basics: Classroom Backgrounds? I will be showcasing these goodies both today and tomorrow, so leave me a comment by 11:59 PM EST September 2nd telling me if you prefer scrapbooking or card making and why. I will select one random winner from all comments. Winners will be posted here.

Thanks for joining me and I hope to see you tomorrow!
