Hello, friends! I hope you are having a great stamping week! The card I’m sharing with you today is not just a card. There’s a whole story to it.

But let me start from the beginning! This is Yana and if you’ve been following me for the past few month you probably saw a few of my pencil colored cards on black cardstock. I shared one recently in this post on gray and a few prior on black here and here.

As I started working on this card I didn’t have any black cardstock left, so I used this olive green from my stash. I was at a crafty retreat and just wanted to do some stamping for fun. I didn’t know if I’d finish this card or not or if it would even turn out to be any good.

I heat embossed 4 partial floral clusters to form the background using Simon’s Antique Gold embossing powder and started coloring some sections of these clusters. I didn’t have many supplies with me, but I did bring my set of Polychromos pencils so I instantly reached for my favorite combo - teal and deep blue.

I colored large leaves and also many of the tiny leaves in this set. Next I pulled out a white pencil and colored the small flower buds white. I didn’t really know what color I wanted to color the large flowers so I kept putting off coloring those for as long as possible.
At one point Kristina, a cardmaker I greatly admire, got curious about this background and asked if she should could color it. She picked the greens and colored large flowers over a few day period. So I guess you can say this card was done by both of us!

I didn’t finish this card at the retreat as like I mentioned I didn’t have all of my supplies with me, so I saved this background and took it home. I finally finished it yesterday - adhered the panel to an A2 card base and added a simple heat embossed Thankful sentiment.
This is not a card design I would repeat again, these flowers really did take a very long time to color, but it did turn out absolutely beautiful! I think I am going to save this card and instead of mailing it will keep it for myself this time.

This is truly stunning Yana. The colours are simply gorgeous. Beautiful work by both you and Kristina but I can understand not making it again, sometimes certain cards can be a little to labour intensive.

ReplyDeleteWow! Absolutely delightful card, Yana! I don't blame you for hanging onto it yourself - it is stunning! I wouldn't have thought of using this color as a background and it turned out to be so striking. I really think that part of its appeal is the non-traditional colour combination. Brilliant!
