I am very excited to be joining many of my friends in celebrating the 10th 30 Day Coloring Challenge!
If you are new to the challenge …. The premise of “The Daily Marker 30 Day Coloring Challenge” is to color something every day, even if it’s only for five minutes. However, feel free to jump in or out as time permits. Any coloring medium is welcomed. You can participate by uploading your colored projects at The Daily Marker, on Instagram and Facebook (FB is a closed group). Please remember to use #thedailymarker30day and tag @kathyrac. Kids and you adults are also encouraged to join in the fun, use #thedailymarker30daykids.
Questions & Answers plus more info on The Daily Marker 30 Day Coloring Challenge can be found here. To see DAY 1 of the coloring challenge click here.
You should have arrived from Waffle Flower. If not, you can start at the beginning of the hop here.
For my coloring project today, I decided to share a fun watercolor technique.
This fun illustrative style has a very carefree feel and I'm loving it!
I used the new Fierce and Fabulous and Hibiscus Bouquet stamp sets to create today's cards. I stamped everything in our Black ink and then used Distress Ink to watercolor the images. I loosely painted in each layer of color, allowing each layer to completely dry between. This kept each layer separate and distinct creating a more illustrative than watercolored look.
I share a couple other versions in the video, so make sure to watch it.

ReplyDeleteBeautiful florals and I love the watercolour effect. xx
ReplyDeleteLovely card! I`m new to watercoloring, so I'm not sharing my efforts yet. Your use of "loose" watercoloring then letting each layer dry sounds like a good method & I'm going to try it soon. Thanks.
ReplyDeleteLove watching your videos, Dawn, and this one was especially nice! Your cards turned out so beautifully!
ReplyDeleteI think this is my third or fourth 30 Day challenge with Kathy... I love it! So encouraging. I'm definitely going to try to make it to every day this month! Love your card shown here!

ReplyDeleteThis is my first online challenge and am looking forward to 'sticking to it'. Enjoying the challenge along with a friend (all is always better with a friend)
ReplyDeleteI love the loose layering you created on your cards. After seeing the first card I had to go in and take the time to see what else you were up to. Fabulous! All 3 have something different that I liked. These blogs are simply amazing!
ReplyDeleteThanks for your video showing your coloring technique. I'd like to try this for the Coloring Challenge.

ReplyDeleteI’m very inspired by all of the participants in this hop and this will be my first ever 30 day color challenge.
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful card, the bit of dimension really adds to the design! This new release is so gorgeous (yet again, how do you keep doing that?!), thank you so much for designing such beautiful products for us to work with! I have participated in almost all of Kathy's colouring challenges, even though I never managed to colour every single day... But I was really close a few times! Let's see if I manage this time - fingers crossed for at least 20 out of the 30 days, LOL. Thank you so much for being part of Kathy's wonderful hop and challenge!

ReplyDeleteThis is such a cool card! I love the black and white along with the florals, it's so pretty!
Wow, gorgeous card and I love the tropical colors and the loosely watercolored layers, my favorite watercolor look. I am coloring with Zigs and colored pencils on some flowers for this coloring challenge. I'm focusing more on coloring rather than finishing a project this time.
ReplyDeleteYes of course, I will join the challenge: It is my first participation and it is a relaxing and emjoying time !
ReplyDeleteLovely card and I love your tutorials! I hope to participate in this 30 day challenge.

ReplyDeleteMy first coloring challenge was #9 and now I am participating in #10 ❤️ Your card is beautiful!
ReplyDeleteI haven't actually participated in the challenge...and probalby won't be as I don't have time to color every day, especially this time of year. Winter is the time I usually have more time for playing with my paper projects...other seasons I do when I can but not everyday. Love seeing all the things everyone else colors though, your card is lovely!
ReplyDeleteThe first color challenge I participated in was #9 and I am participating in #10. I love the Hibiscus!! Beautiful card :)

ReplyDeleteI have not been perfect in participating everyday, but have been going through old colouring some pre stamped images that have been waiting for attention.
ReplyDeleteThis is just beautiful!! I love the colors you used and the depth you added. I have participated in a few of the challenges, but have not been able to do them every day due to work and travel. However, I plan to do as many days as possible this month.

ReplyDeleteWow! I really love all three versions!! I say I'm going to join in and then I just don't get around to it!! I really need to do what Kathy says and at least start coloring something even if I don't finish it! I'm definitely going to try!
ReplyDeleteSo pretty! This is my first challenge and I am so excited to get coloring and try some of the new techniques everybody is showing!
ReplyDeleteI color almost every day, so my challenge is just getting it linked up on Instagram ha ha! I have participated in prior challenges, and plan to do so for this one as well as time allows. Thank you for the video sharing your beautiful watercoloring!
ReplyDeleteYour card is goregous. I have participated in other 30 day challenges and this one
ReplyDeleteYour card is beautiful and your stamping line is amazing. This is my first challenge and will try many new things, which I have only seen other artists using it.
ReplyDeleteYes, this will be my second 30 Day Challenge. The first time I did great for about 10 days then fell off. This time i’m Hoping to make it the whole 30 days!

ReplyDeleteGorgeous coloring! And that tropical stamp is so pretty! Thanks for the video - love, love, love your cards.
ReplyDeleteFABULOUS! I intend to practice my pencil colouring during this chalkenge, but I may try my hand at other colouring mediums as well.
ReplyDeleteYes, I’ve joined before. It’s the reason I learned how to color and shade. I hope to join this time too.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful card and coloring.
Oooh, this card is so beautiful! I do plan to join in as I'm trying to learn how to shake with alcohol markers and I need much more practice.
ReplyDeleteWOW!! This card is STUNNING!!! I LOVE all the layers!!
ReplyDeleteLove this stamp. You make it look so easy. I would love to join in, one of these days I'll figure it out. Nicely done.
ReplyDeleteLove it, so cool! I might have to give this technique a try! I would definitely like to practice water coloring during this challenge.
ReplyDeleteAlthough I can't commit to taking part in every day of the 30 day colouring challenge, I plan to join in when I can. Love this Hibiscus Bouquet stamp set, Dawn. We just returned from a vacation in Bermuda and this set bring back delightful memories of our island holiday.
ReplyDeleteWow, this card is gorgeous! I love the colors and the technique you used to layer the images. Thanks for the inspiration and for your generous giveaway!

ReplyDeleteof all of the watercolor classes I have taken, yours are my favorite. This is just beautiful, I love the white space and the shading.
ReplyDeleteYour card is absolutely stunning! Love it!!!
ReplyDeleteAnd YES I am planning on joining the challenge this time :)
Beautiful cards, as always! Love these tropical stamps!
ReplyDeleteI forgot to add that I’m going to try to colour several times/week. Too many other things taking up my time, unfortunately.
DeleteI love these coloring challenges! I am participating in this one. I didn't do it last time, and I really missed being a part of the coloring challenge community! 😁
ReplyDeleteI am a newbie to the coloring challenge but plan to play along. Watercoloring is my new medium of choice so I look forward to giving this a try.
ReplyDeleteOOHHHH!! I am pretty new to the world of stamping and just love the Distress line. I forget you can color with inks this way too. LOL!! This is the first challenge that I am doing and very excited!!!
ReplyDeleteso pretty--I like the colors. I have participated in the past and hope to this time.
ReplyDeleteOh so pretty. Your coloring is amazing. I love that floral stamp. I have played along with the coloring challenge in the past but can never quite complete all 30 days... heres hoping. ;)
ReplyDeleteI am hopeful I will be able to complete the challenge, but you know how life gets complicated.
ReplyDeleteYes I think this is my tenth time doing the coloring challenge.
ReplyDeleteI have always loved your watercoloring style and this one is no different! This style looks easy enough that I could do it! Yay! Thanks so much for sharing your talents with us. I usually do try to participate in the coloring challenge, maybe not every day though. This year I hope to be brave enough to post something. LOL!
ReplyDeleteLove those cards! I could watch you watercolor all day. I hope to participate as many days as I can, and I love seeing what everyone else is doing.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful card! I've participated some in past challenges, but I really hope to participate more this time.
ReplyDeletetinyfeet 22 at yahoo dot com
The cards are beautiful. Love all the tips and techniques you share as you color. Watercolor is my favorite way to go, followed closely by colored pencil. So many of your designs lend themselves to these two mediums. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful! Love water coloring.
ReplyDeleteI have been following Kathy's challenges, but have not yet joined in. I will not be joining in on this one, but love seeing everyone else's cards! Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteThanks for supporting Kathy's challenge. I always have the intention to participate but never actually follow through :(
ReplyDeleteYour card is fabulous and beautifullly colored!
ReplyDeleteLove these cards and the water coloring you did! I didn’t order this stamp...might need to go back and do so.

ReplyDeletebeautiful card, Dawn - love that stamp - just might NEED to get it!
ReplyDeletePretty Card!
ReplyDeleteLike all the layering!
I've had time to color so far on this challenge
Hope to continue for the whole month
Your cards are stunning ! I love the multi color version, it's really a great card. This stamp is beautiful and I will have to look at it more closely..... LOL !
ReplyDeleteThank you for the generous gift.
Beautiful card
ReplyDeleteThanx for the amazing tutorial! I can't wait to join the Challenge and try some watercoloring of my own!
ReplyDeleteWow, I love this technique. It never occurred to me to not blend everything out, but I'm definitely going to be trying this during the challenge.
ReplyDeleteSpeaking of, I participated last coloring challenge for about half the time, but this time, I'm going for every single day, even though I'm traveling. *crosses fingers* Also, I'm going to try and get my nieces involved, which shouldn't be hard since they're 4 and 2.5 and love to color. It'll be more trouble to get me all prepped! Thanks for supporting Kathy and this challenge.
Beautiful card! Watercoloring is my favorite coloring medium.
ReplyDeleteI'm always in awe of your coloring skills! I wish I had half your talent! BTW- The FLOCK YEAH stamp from this month's release was awesome! I will be purchasing it soon!
ReplyDeleteFABULOUS card, your coloring is perfect! Your work is wonderful!💜🤗
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful card! LOVE that Hibiscus!! Always enjoy seeing your watercolor works....so gorgeous. ♥
ReplyDeleteFor this challenge, I do plan to join. It's a definite push to make me find time for me...something that I tend to ignore.
Wow this is gorgeous!! Great inspiration!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful cards! Will have to give this a try. I love to color and try to do it daily ( I call it my daily therapy). I just recently heard about this challenge and am going to play along.
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely card! Beautiful colors and coloring. I really would like to step out of my comfort zone and join in on the challenge this month.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous card!!! I have joined in the Challenge before, and was blessed to be an Ambassador for the last 30-Day!! I’m back again to color as many days as possible!
ReplyDeleteThis will be my first year to participate in the challenge. I'm enjoying this hop and all the inspiration.
ReplyDeleteSuch a beautiful card!
ReplyDeleteThis will be my 10th time participating in the color challenge! 😁
Beautiful card. I haven't been able to complete a full 30 days yet, and I can't this time either on the challenge. But I will try to do it as much as possible.
ReplyDeleteDawn, this card and your watercoloring are so beautiful! I've been really wanting to learn to watercolor and I think I might actually be able to do OK with this technique. I haven't joined any of the challenges, but did join this year. Coloring is one of my absolute favorite things to do.
ReplyDeleteI like the premise of coloring for at least a few minutes everyday but not feeling pressured to finish a project! I may have to join in this time!!
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful tropical card! I love Kathy's challenges, I am never able to participate fully, but it does encourage me to get my markers/pencils out and get some coloring done, even if not every day.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous coloring and cards! I love the pretty tropical flowers!
ReplyDeleteLove the look of this watercoloring technique!!1 About an hour ago I received my WPlus9 Hibiscus Bouquet stamp...can't wait to give this a try!!!! Thanks so much for sharing how you accomplished this creative look!!!
ReplyDeletePaper Hugs,
Jan
Such an amazing card - that stamp is gorgeous. I am planning to participate in the coloring challenge - it will be a great way to start summer vacation and have some daily relaxing!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful card! I love the way you balanced the flowers. I am afraid I have not done a coloring challenge and am not currently doing this one (I just discovered it), but I am coloring every day right now. I am working on cards for a nursing home so my daughter and I are doing a lot of coloring.
ReplyDeleteI may "informally" join in...but I've missed the first few days. Thanks and God Bless! ILuvTheEucharist @ aol dot com
ReplyDeleteI have never seen this style of watercoloring and it is beautiful AND something I think I might be able to do. I’ve always been afraid of watercoloring - the blending, the light source, the shadows. It’s a lot. This style seems to ignore some of that and layer on beautiful colors. I may turn into the little engine that could!
ReplyDeleteSQUEAL!! BEAUTIFUL Cards!! I LOVE the Images and the loose Water Coloring!! I have joined every challenge!! I ENJOY ALL of the AMAZING Inspiration shared!! THANKS for sharing and have a FABULOUS WEEK!!
ReplyDeleteFabulous and amazing indeed! Using Distress inks to watercolor is my favorite method of coloring. I love the blending and nuance between darks and lights you were able to achieve with the inks.
ReplyDeleteWhat an interesting way to watercolor, and you make it look so easy.
ReplyDeleteThis is my first time to participate.
I have participated in the previous coloring challenges. This one is happening while I am dealing with a death in the family. I know it would help me to "escape" & color, I just am not able to do so right now, it's as if I am "limbo", unable to do anything really.
ReplyDeleteBut your card is beautiful! And I find myself just looking through various blogs for so respite from my current situation.
Beautiful card! Gorgeous colors!!! You make that look so easy!
ReplyDeleteOH my goodness, this hibiscus card is enchanting!! I'm literally mesmerized! Such bold, vivid color. Yes, I am doing all 30 days, barring all emergencies :} Last year, hurricane Irma came barreling towards South Florida midway and we packed up and evacuated
ReplyDeleteI typically participate, but don't frequently share. For me, I'd rather use the time to create than to edit photos, upload, etc. I have a few images prestamped for this month to save me making up any excuses about not having time or it taking too much effort :-)
ReplyDeleteGorgeous card, this is my first time doing the 30 day challenge. I hope I can keep up.
ReplyDeleteDolores
I like the open values in the flowers that allows you to shade and shadow at your own discretion. Your flowers are beautiful as is your card.
ReplyDeleteI don't know if this card is more amazing or more fabulous. Lovely technique and colouring!
ReplyDeleteThis is gonna be my new favorite way to paint....for real....i adore the way it turned out and the technique is right up my alley. I dont think watercolor is in my wheelhouse to be honest. I love the look of it, but can't get mine to look right like ever. I have done a couple 30 day coloring challenges and plan on taking part in this one as well. Thabks for some great inspiration!! Big Hugs!!!
ReplyDeleteThis is my first challenge! I'm a teacher and it started my first day off! Woohoo!
ReplyDeleteWow! Beautiful cards! I love this technique and can't wait to give it a try. Watercoloring is so difficult for me, but you gave some great tips that I think are going to help me a lot. This will be the first color challenge for me, and I'm focusing on using markers. I currently only use colored pencils. Thanks for the inspiration!
ReplyDeleteI have joined one other in the past, but didn't manage to finish the 30 days. I am determined this time to color on each of the 30 days. Love the card!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful! Thanks for your inspiration and for this video.
ReplyDeleteWe just got back from a family Hawaiian vacation so this card really appeals to me. The beautiful flowers are so colorful! I haven't joined the coloring challenge yet but I try to color at least once a week.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful card! I love the way FABULOUS is emphasised by it being on multiple lines. I took part in the last challenge, the first time I'd heard about it.
ReplyDeleteThis is gorgeous! I really like this stamp set!
ReplyDeleteBeautifully colored card!
ReplyDeleteLove your card. I have never done a color challenge. I will be participating by know I will not be able to do it every day.
ReplyDeleteThank you for the tutorial. You made the water coloring look so easy. Love the bold contrast of the sentiment with the softness of the floral images.
ReplyDeleteThis is my second challenge and i know its helped me improve and relax. I love your cards and can't wait to get the hibiscus bouquet when it arrives in australia. Tfs xxx
ReplyDeleteHi there. I have joined in a number of the 30 day coloring challenges and was so blessed to be able to go to the one day event in savage, md in november. I have to say they were life changing events. I never knew there were so many other women that love card making and beauty and art as much as I do. I love Kathy and love all the things that you all do to help keep our community of kind, talented women together. I took the OCC watercoloring class that you taught, but because of illness, i had to stop in the middle. I am hoping to go back and finish the class this month. Thank you so much. Hugs, treen
ReplyDeleteI LOVE these cards! And thank you so much for the detailed explanation of your process in your video - I'm so inspired! This is my third challenge, and I'm raring to go!
ReplyDeleteI love love love the looseness of this style. I've watched others do it & just can't seem to exercise enough restraint that I don't end up trying to paint the entire image. I definitely will try again & will try not to stress out over it. Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteI just love what you created--stunning. I have always been intimidated by coloring but recently purchased some Copics and am starting to enjoy coloring. I need to continue to practice to get better at it but will eventually get there.
ReplyDeleteYour coloring and tutorials are always so amazing. Thank you for the inspiration!
ReplyDeleteI love watching you color and your cards turned out gorgeous! I have never participated in the coloring challenges in the past but I really want to get better at water coloring so have decided to do some watercoloring every day this month in hopes of increasing my skills. I’m excited to see if there is any difference between June 1 and June 30!! Thanks for encouraging me to participate!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful work, I've not seen your work before on my short journey into craft but will be watching for mote. You have such a great talent and it shows in this set of cards. Stunning images that you've coloured so beautifully. Thank you for all your advice and encouragement to try. This is my first try at this challenge, I just watched last year's lol x
ReplyDeleteBeautiful cards. I love watching you paint, you always make it look easy. I have never participated in the challenges, but I sure do love watching all of the tutorials. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteDawn your cards are "FABULOUS" and so is you water colouring!
ReplyDeleteI am totally joining in on this challenge and I have never missed one yet! They are so much fun and gives us a 'licence' to have some ME TIME!
Wow, what a gorgeous card! Love the coloring. I am totally jouning this challenge. It’s fun & inspiring to see everyone’s projects.
ReplyDeleteAll 3 cards are so pretty and colorful. I haven't joined any of the challenges yet and am not able to do this one either but I sure enjoy watching everyone else. Maybe next time. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteFab card...love all your stamps...thanks for sharing this card!!
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely beautiful watercoloring! Love this coloring challenge—my 6th, I think, to participate in!
ReplyDeleteLove your creative endeavors. . . always so beautiful what you create. I also just love love your videos. You're a great instructor! I sure hope to participate in this challenge. I usually hit a few days. Summertime is hard for me. Lots of fun things to do outside . . .bike, garden, paddleboard and so on!!
ReplyDeleteDawn, love your card and technique. You always make watercoloring so easy. Love the stamps as well.
ReplyDeleteDefinitely joining in! :)
ReplyDeleteSo inspiring following the coloring challenge. Thanks so much for sharing such a gorgeous card!
Such a beautiful card. Yes, I will be participating in the challenge. Not sure I can get time in everyday, but I will try. Its funny though, at the end of the day, I always go to bed wishing I had more time to color. It really is a relaxing thing to do :) Thanks for supporting this hop and including a give away as well. Very generous of you!
ReplyDeleteLovely coloring! I love the layers and how pretty it looks. What a different look from the previous card, where the hibiscus flowers were solid colored! Gorgeous flowers! I have already colored couple of images. :)
ReplyDeleteThank you for that video. This is why I love the 30day challenge. I get to see techniques like this, that I have not seen before. I love watercolor, but have struggled to make things look realistic. This illustrator technique is something I could definitely do, and it came out beautifully.
ReplyDeleteWhat a good teacher you are, Dawn!
ReplyDeleteI did a little bit of the color challenge a couple of years ago, but I have to admit I'm not very diligent! Still, I love to see what everyone else is doing.
Wow your cards are beautiful. I always look forward to and enjoy the coloring challenge.
ReplyDeleteYour card is absolutely gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for sharing...
I love coloring and try to participate in the 30-day coloring challenge; however, some days it's just not possible for me. On those days I try to watch you and some of the other true artists who inspire me to get back in my craft room. Your card is beautiful, and the Hibiscus Bouquet stamp is gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteI participate most times. Last time I did every single day! Hope to do the same again!
ReplyDeleteI am going to participate. I saw that
ReplyDeleteevery time and then don't - but this time
I have some small projects that I enjoy
coloring and I'll work on them.
Love the fabulous flowers.
thanks for sharing

Gorgeous cards! I think my favorite tho is the all over pattern one with vellum on top! Thank you for the great inspiration!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous card. You are an awesome artist. This technique looks doable as a start to learning watercoloring. Thank you.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous card and so beautifully colored! Thanks for the inspiration :)
ReplyDeleteWow! Beautiful, just beautiful!
ReplyDeleteI like this illustated style, this is something I want to try.
ReplyDeleteI've followed all of Kathy's Challenges and have participated in a few - I'm participating in this one also. :-)
I love this image - and your coloring of it is beautiful! I've watched from the sidelines for the past few coloring challenges but this time I'm actually participating!
ReplyDeleteoh I love the colors. what a beautiful stamp. great blog hop..
ReplyDeleteGreat video!! I found super helpful and I love the artistic look of all 3 cards. These stamps you used are so fun and scream summer! Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteLovely cards and I especially like you idea of putting the sentiment on vellum on top of the beautifully colored background! I'm going to try to color more b/c I was interested to read about the calming effects coloring has--life is a bit more out of control for me lately, so anything calm would be great! :)
