Tropical Birthday: No Line Copic Coloring with Kelly

Hello Crafters!

Wow, It's been a while since I've shared over here. I've missed you guys!

Full disclosure this card took forever to make. Not because of the technique, nope. Because I moved and then had to track down all the pieces and parts! Haha!

I started by stamping the gorgeous trellis background stamp in Nautical Navy and it was done. There's something really nice about not having to fuss with your background all the time.

I really wanted to try my hand at no line coloring the beautiful hibiscus included in the Tropic Fever set. I chose a couple of different colors that would match the combination I had in mind and stamped them out.

I did all the coloring using copic markers. Because WPlus9 inks are alcohol based they blend really nicely with alcohol markers of any kind. Once the coloring was done I die cut them and started on my sentiment.

It's definitely a little bit busier than my usual style, but I really love how it turned out. The gold with those gorgeous summer colors is making me super happy.

GUEST ARTIST FEATURE: Gettin' Sassy w/Janette Kausen ft. Flock Yeah!

Good day to you! It’s Janette Kausen here, guesting with you today. I am so happy to be back! A little something about me? I’ve got a thing about flamingos and sass. It has gotten me in the hot seat a time or two. The sass, not the flamingos! When Wplus9 released the Flock Yeah! set… gasp! It jumped in my cart, ASAP. It had to come live with me!

I began by stamping the flamingo, palms and crown from Flock Yeah! in Pure Color Black Dye ink on smooth Bristol paper. I then clear embossed the images to create a well for color. Embossing is not necessary, unless like me, you are impatient and want to paint wet colors right next to each other. I like to lay down a base color with watercolor markers, blend with water and then go back and add deep rich colors enhancing depth, shadows and detail. There is something about adding layers, and second or third colors from other color families, that make me swoon! Green leaves with a touch of blue. Pinks with a splash of orange. It really is where watercolor comes to life, yum!

While the watercolor dried, I die cut a circle into a 4 1/8” x 5 3/8” white cardstock panel. I placed the panel into a Misti replacing the circle die cut back into is original space. After adding two small loops of invisible wrapping style tape I picked up the circle with the Misti lid. I then nestled the Flock Yeah! sentiment against the circle (still adhered to the lid) curving the photopolymer stamp to match the arch of the circle. I inked it up in Black Pure Color ink and stamped the sentiment with precision!

Once all the images were dry, I die cut them, with the exception of the Hibiscus Bouquet, which I fussy cut. I arranged them within the circle, tucking some edges under, others over, and then covered them carefully with Press’n Seal. When pressed in place well, the Press’n Seal securely holds the images without disrupting their placement or damaging them. I turned the panel over and applied foam tape to the back being cautious of areas that could be seen from the front.

Finally, I removed the Press’n Seal and with all die cuts secure, I adhered the panel onto a 4 1/4” x 5 1/2” folded card base. I added a touch more foam tape behind the flamingo and orange flowers, for dimension. A few sequins add the requisite sparkle.

Easy Scene Building ft. The Crew: Garden Club w/Kara

Hello! It's Kara and I am right in the middle of my summer break from school. One of the greatest joys of this summer has been watching all of the plants and flowers we have planted bloom in our garden. I used to not have much success with plants, but something has changed and it is so satisfying to putter around in my garden pruning and watering. All of this inspired me to pull out The Crew: Garden Club stamp set!

For this card I started by adding a bit of Distress Ink to my background. A hint of Broken China at the top for sky and a bit of Shabby Shutters at the bottom for grass. Then I stamped and die cut a bunch of images from the Garden Club stamp set and colored them with my Copic Markers. I love the look of terra cotta I get with E08 and E19.

As I started arranging my scene I thought the Fence Border Die would be perfect for this little scene. I positioned it on my card front and then added all of the colored images. I placed some images behind and some in front of the fence and I think it looks really cute and adds depth to the scene.

Then at the top I stamped one of the best sentiments ever, Your friendship has planted a little garden in my heart! How sweet is that?

Wild Birthday w/Kara ft. BIG DEAL

Hey Guys! It's Kara here today and I'm headed to a wild birthday party this weekend! My youngest cousin, James, is turning 6!

I hope he loves this card. I do and I'm a little bit older than he is. ;) For this bright, fun scene I used Big Deal and Big Deal Additions stamp sets and their coordinating die sets. These sets make it so easy to create an exciting little circus scene. I chose the pandas because James loves them. I stuck to just 3 bright Copic colors to make it simple to color.

Each die cut is doubled up with foam adhesive in between to add dimension and interest from all angles. A few stars stamped in the background finish it off!
