Hello friends! This is Yana and I hope you are having a fabulous week!
If someone were to ask me what is my most favorite thing in stamping I would without hesitation reply - backgrounds! I love to create my own, unique, one-of-a-kind stamped patterns and background for cards, tags and even gift wrap.
For my today’s blog post I reached for one of WPlus9 older stamp sets, Borders & Backgrounds 1. I had my eye on this set for a long time and finally was able to create a few bold and colorful cards featuring DIY Ikat stamped patterns.
I challenged myself to use every border stamp included in this stamp set and thus created 3 similar but very different backgrounds. My color choice for these cards landed on blue. I also used a lot of white and green, a bit of black and a hint of gold.
My blue color is represented using 3 different shades, 3 ink pads - Lake House, Falling For Blue and Nautical Navy. These are fantastic bold and vibrant colors and they work oh so well together.
I used a MISTI stamp positioner to stamp an ombre background on my largest project. I started with Lake House in the middle (later covered with a mix of Falling For Blue and Lake House) and worked my way out to Nautical Navy overlapping and mixing colors slightly on my stamp. I also added green and black details using WPlus9 Last Leaf ink and Versafine Onyx Black ink.
One of the smaller, 4 Bar size, cards was complemented with gold heat embossing over Falling For Blue stamping. I added gold heat embossed dots onto every other stamped blue row.
The background on the other smaller card was stamped using a combination of blue and green. I used a black pigment pen to add black details over blue stamping.
My cards were embellished using flowers from the all-time favorite Fresh Cut Florals stamp set. I used same blue and green inks to stamp them and created dimensional flower centers using Nuvo Drops in Gloss White.
As for the sentiments, they came from the Hand Lettered Thanks and Fresh Cut Florals stamps and were stamped in Falling For Blue and heat embossed in white embossing powder onto black cardstock.
I went with “Thank You” messages for my projects, but I see these backgrounds being suitable for a number of different occasions.
So this concludes my background study! I hope you have found it useful and inspirational. Have fun stamping!
