Creating on the Fly w/Dawn ft. HELLO & THANKS

Hello crafty friends! Today I've got a little bit of a different video to share with you. I shared this over on YouTube a few days ago, and thought I'd pop in to share here as well for those that don't already follow over there. (which you totally should, BTW) ;)

Normally when I film a video, I recreate a card that I've already created prior to actually filming for brevity. It makes the filming process quicker and requires less editing and such. But, today, I just turned on the camera and started working through an idea. You'll be able to see the how the design evolves and how I adapt when execution doesn't quite match my original vision.

Although things did not go as planned with the second card, I do absolutely love the way it turned out. Thank goodness for small favors!

I stamped the floral cluster from Hello & Thanks onto Oatmeal card stock in Coconut Husk ink and colored it with Copic Markers. As you'll see in the video above, that didn't quite go as planned. To save it, I ended up stamping over the original with Versamark Ink and heat embossing it using Gold Embossing Powder. This added back in the badly needed definition I had lost during coloring.

To add a little interest to the background, I used a die to do some dry embossing. This is super easy to do by swapping out your cutting plates with your embossing ones.

I die-cut the image using the companion die and popped it up using foam adhesive. For the sentiment, I again used heat embossing and die cut the large hello using the companion die and popped that up as well. The rest of the sentiment was stamped directly on the card base in Coconut Husk.

Now this card did go as planned until the very end, when I managed to leave a big ol' fingerprint on the edge in black ink. Yeah, it happens to us all at one time or another.

I used all of the same supplies on this card, only I swapped out the cream base for a white one and stamped in Memento Black Ink instead of brown. To "fix" the fingerprint boo-boo, I trimmed down the panel to the first embossed line and adhered the panel using foam adhesive to my card base.

I hope you enjoyed today's project. As always, thanks for stopping by!

Simple Copic Coloring w/Dawn ft. HELLO & THANKS

The thing I really love about flowers is that they can be used year round. Simply swapping out your color palette can transform a bouquet to be appropriate for any season. Especially when it comes to the more whimsical illustration style - because they are recognizable as flowers, but not any particular type.

Our new Hello & Thanks stamps and dies are the perfect all occasion set. I send out more "Hello" or "Just Because" cards than any other kind. I think it's always nice to receive a card when you least expect it...for no particular reason.

The little bouquets in this set are perfect for whipping together quick and easy cards that look like they took way more time than they actually did. For this little duo, I stamped out several of the images in the set using Memento Tuxedo Black ink. Then used Copics to color in the images. Again, I went super simple with my coloring to push these images a little more towards the modern side. I just used one Copic for each color and laid in a simple flat wash. I left white breaks in some areas to separate some of the areas and add a little more interest.

Those white breaks act as a highlight without any additional work or color blending. I die cut everything using the companion dies and then adhered to a panel die cut with our Stitched Rectangles Die.

The bold sentiments included in the set are the perfect contrast to the thinner more delicate illustrations. You know what they say...opposites attract!

I hope you enjoyed today's post and this look at Hello & Thanks as much as I enjoyed illustrating it! As always, thanks for stopping by!

GUEST ARTIST FEATURE: Cynde Whitlow

Hey folks! It’s Cynde from The Pink Envelope I’m so excited to be back for another guest Design post for Wplus9! The last time I was here, I showed you all how to do some complex masking with several stamps sets. This time, I thought I would keep things really simple and use the Miss You Lots stamp set for both cards.

I also have a video to share with you! It’s full of details and information, so be sure to check it out!

Watch above or watch in HD at YouTube

I die cut out one panel with the rounded rectangle die from the Sunshine Layers Die set. I LOVE this die set. It’s a must have for your stash folks! I kept the other panel at a full 4.25”x5.5”. On each panel, I stamped the sweet girl from the Miss You Lots stamp set in Copic friendly ink. Then, I Copic colored both girls on each panel.

Using the Sunshine Layers Die again, I die cut some of the clouds from masking paper and added those to one of the panels before I started ink blending.

For the sky on one card, I used Bo Peep, Falling For Blue and Nautical Navy PURE COLOR Dye Ink. I used just the Bo Peep ink on the other card to give the idea that there is a sky behind my girl. You can see exactly how I did this in the video.

Mojito, Beanstalk and Appletini are what I used for grass on one card. I used a die from the Landscape Borders Die to create my mask this time. I also quickly Copic colored grass on my other card to "ground" my little girl so it didn’t look like she was just floating on the card.

I kept one card clean & simple. I added a sentiment from Miss You Lots and attached it to a 4.25”x5.5” top folding card base. To match the shape of the other card, I ran a top folding notecard through my die cutting machine with the scallop rectangle die from the Sunshine Layers Die. I simply moved the cut lines of the die so they extended past the fold of the card base so that the card base would stay in tact.

That’s it!

I hope you enjoyed my cards today! As always it’s such a great pleasure to design for Wplus9!

Until next time! ~Cynde
