One Layer Spring Blooms with Yana

Hello friends! This is Yana and I hope you are having a fabulous week!

We often get carried away with elaborate techniques and tricks and the cards we make become rather difficult to copy or mass produce. Today I decided to create a simple and approachable card featuring stamping only.

I picked Spring Bloom stamp set to do most of my stamping and also Bold Banner Greetings stamp set for my sentiment. For my color combo I went with something new. I used Warm Wool, Sweet Nectar, Miami Spice and Siren Song. A rather unusual color combination, but definitely a fresh and fun one to try.

This card features stamped pattern that consist of one image - floral cluster being repeatedly stamped onto the background. I picked one of the large clusters from the Spring Bloom stamp set and stamped it 5 or 6 times to cover the front of my card. Only 3 times if you count full images, and not the little partial impressions.

I didn’t use my stamp positioner for this card and only did my stamping using a clear block as I didn’t feel I needed to use a MISTI or similar tool. The reason I picked this particular image and not something else is the striped detail on the leaves. Since I was making a very simple one layer card I needed to use something that would add additional interest. And those striped textured looking leaves fit the bill perfectly.

I stamped my image several times rotating it on my paper and making sure to leave enough white space for the sentiment and little florals. Overall I stamped it 6 times, but only 3 impressions ended up being almost complete on this card.

Next, while I still had room on my card, I added a sentiment. You could (and probably should) start your stamping with a sentiment, but I planned ahead of time where I wanted my message to be, so I first stamped the other large elements on my card. For my sentiment I went with Hello, Lovely.

Next I added flowers inside the floral cluster and I stamped those using the lighter peach color, Sweet Nectar. Flower centers were stamped in the same Warm Wool color and again I loved how a center was not a solid image, but rather a textured-looking one. I also stamped some additional stems and flower buds in a slightly darker peach, Miami Spice.

Lastly I added little berries in Siren Song ink color. You can skip adding those and go with sequins or enamel dots or some other embellishment for your project, but I wanted to keep this card absolutely one layer so I added stamped berries instead.

Have fun stamping!

A Background Study: Chevron with Yana

Hello friends! This is Yana and I hope you are having a fabulous week!

In my previous WPlus9 post - A Background Study: Ikat - I took a look at some of the fabulous background stamps and created several stamped patterns for unique, one-of-a-kind cards.

Today I want to continue exploring backgrounds and have prepared several additional cards to share with you using stamps from the Borders & Backgrounds 4 set.

I created 5 different patterns in all. I made 3 projects using various stamped patterns and also created 2 additional backgrounds just to show you all the different designs you can create using these stamps.

The color combination I went with today is rather vibrant, yet feminine - I used a lot white, several shades of pink, a bit of green and a hint of yellow.

Before stamping my backgrounds onto white cardstock I did some practice stamping and tested several ideas on typing paper. After finding a pattern I loved I stamped it using my selected ink colors onto white cardstock.

Background #1: For my first project I used “chevron group” image and created a somewhat random stamped pattern. I love that one chevron is missing from this group allowing us to come in and stamp it using a different ink color. While most of my background was stamped using Last Leaf color, some chevrons were stamped in Shell Pink and Sweet Gelato.

Background #2: To create a background for a smaller, 4 Bar card, I used the small dot border stamp and stamped it repeatedly onto my paper. I alternated the alignment and offset each row by one dot to the left and to the right. I used Sweet Gelato, Little Piggy and Shell Pink ink colors and did not clean my stamp in between impressions to have leftover ink residue from the previous color used (so for example, Little Piggy color on this project is a mix of Little Piggy and leftover Sweet Gelato).

Background #3: I used the large dot border image and stamped it using Last Leaf color. After stamping the first row I used an insert image and stamped chevrons using Shell Pink. This helped me align the next row of “large dot border” images. I continued in the same manner until I had the entire front of the card stamped and later came in and added Sweet Gelato inserts over several Shell Pink inserts to add a pop of color.

Background #4 and #5 use both the large dot border and the small dot border images, and simply show different ways these can be aligned. I used 3 shades of pink to stamp both backgrounds to create a beautiful ombre look.

I picked a very feminine color combo for my backgrounds, but these can be easily turned masculine by stamping them in Appletini, Old Gold and Coconut Husk.

To complete my cards I added a flower cluster from the Spring Blooms stamp set and white heat embossed several sentiments from the Strictly Sentiments 4 stamp set. (I used an ink blending tool and Sweet Gelato to color white paper to create colored cardstock that would match in color to the rest of my project).

So this concludes my background study! I hope you have found it useful and inspirational.

Have fun stamping!

Blending with Ocean Drive

Hi there, It's Maureen here today. The design team has really been knocking it out of the park with the fabulous new PURECOLOR South Beach collection! And today, I have two cards featuring blending techniques using Ocean Drive.

My first card uses Ocean Drive, Flamingo and Coconut Husk inks with two previously released colors. The new collection is not only perfectly coordinated to work together, but also works perfectly with the Original 10 Collection.

Wplus9 Supplies:
Stamps: Spring Blooms, Hand Lettered Hello // Inks: Wild Mango Dye Ink, Appletini Dy Ink, Flamingo Dye Ink, Coconut Husk Dye Ink // Dies: Hand Lettered Hello Die

I started this card by stamping the leaves from Spring Blooms in Appletini Dye Ink. Then, using a blending tool, I sponged Ocean Drive all around the leaves, making sure to leave the spaces where the flowers would be stamped white. Then I went in and did the rest of my stamping. Adding Ocean Drive to the background really gave this one layer card the feel of dimension without adding additional layers.

Who says you need coordinating card stock for every ink color?  When you have a quality ink, like PURECOLOR Dye Ink, you can make your own colored cardstock easily! Here I used a blending tool and Ocean Drive dye ink and made a sentiment strip to match my project perfectly.

Wplus9 Supplies:
Stamps: Coming Up Roses, Strictly Sentiments 2, Backgrounds & Borders 2// Inks:  Flamingo Dye Ink, Miami Spice Dye Ink, Ocean Drive Dye Ink, Coconut Husk Dye Ink, Mojito Dye Ink// Dies: Hand Lettered Hello Die

I hope you've enjoyed my projects today! See you back here tomorrow for more before these beauties officially go on sale at midnight June 5, 2014!

More PURE COLORS

Hello...hello...Joni here! I hope you are loving the new PURE COLOR South Beach Collection so far. They really complement the Original PURE COLOR Collection. For my first project the inks I used are Flamingo, Miami Spice, Coconut Husk, Silver Lining, and Appletini.

  1. For the card base I smooshed the ink pad into the bottom of my card stock to dye it the Coconut Husk color at the bottom. You can simply smooshed any of your PURE COLOR ink pads on any white cardstock for an instant colored cardstock.
  2. Next, I cut a panel same size as the A2 card base, stamped the image from Borders & Backgrounds 2 in Silver Lining ink and die-cut the bottom using the Scalloped Border Die.
  3. Then, I die-cut the center of the panel to create a shaker card, filling it with sequins from Pretty Pink Posh.
  4. For the sentiments, I used the stamp set Fanciful Feathers. I stamped "So Grateful" in Coconut Husk and "For Your Kindness" in Miami Spice inks, both from the new South Beach Collection.
  5. Before adhering everything together, I distressed the card base with Miami Spice. I wanted to give just the hint of the softness from the color scheme. You can see at the bottom of the sentiment just the right hint of peach..Love <3 this colors so much!

For my second card, I used the Coconut Husk, Ocean Drive, and Mojito.

  1. I started by stamping the tiny flowers from Valentine Wishes stamp set on by top panel of card stock. I used the Second Generation Stamping Technique for the flower background. I stamped it first on a piece of scrap paper and then stamped the image on the panel without re-inking the stamp.
  2. Next, I die-cut white cardstock and vellum using the Spring Wreath die and adhered them onto the panel.
  3. For the flower, I used the Pretty Poinsettias stamps and companion die.
  4. After die-cutting the flowers, I distressed them using Ocean Drive on the large flower, and Mojito on the smaller flower. So loving this color combo! The leaves are distressed with Coconut Husk.
  5. To finish the flowers I stamped some of the detail images using the Second Generation Stamping Technique.
  6. All the sentiments are inked with Coconut Husk. I'm really loving this shade of brown - not too dark and not too light. The "Friend" sentiment is from Fanciful Feathers, and "I Hope Your Day Is Extra Special Just Like You" is from Strictly Sentiments 4.

For my last project, I went wild and used most of the inks in the collection, some original and some new. From the South Beach Collection, I used Coconut Husk, Mojito and Miami Spice. I also used Lake House, Silver Lining, Sweet Gelato, Nautical Navy, Appletini and Wild Mango. I used the stamp set Paisley Patterns , one of my favorites.

  1. To begin this card I cut a panel a little bit smaller than the regular A2 card.
  2. I stamped the larger paisley first and then filled them with the other images from the the set.
  3. For the sentiment, I die-cut the Hand Lettered Hello from the panel and then adhered the panel onto the woodgrain patterned paper from Crate Paper.
  4. At the bottom of "hello" I stamped the "Sweet Friend" sentiment from the Hand Lettered Hello stamp set in Nautical Navy.

I hope that you are enjoying viewing these FABULOUS ink colors! Remember, the South Beach Collection will be available for purchase on June 5, 2014, at www.wplus9.com as a whole collection and individuals.

And be sure to stop by Kara's blog and Maureen's to see more of this new color collection in action!
