"Glowing" Watercolors with Dawn

Happy Fri-yay! I have a fun one to share with you all today that just puts a big ol' smile on my face.

"Friendship" cards are officially my favorite cards to make. They are happy, unexpected and anything goes! Seriously, you can make a friendship card with any imagery or technique and it's fine...cause friendship never goes out of style, or season!

I decided to pair our new Little Dreamers products with a sentiment from our older Lucky Stars stamp set. I chose to do a little watercoloring with Tim Holtz Distress Inks on Fabriano Artistico Hot Pressed watercolor paper this time.

I kept the watercoloring technique very simple. Because I was working on artist grade watercolor paper (which is made of cotton vs. pulp), the Distress Inks are much more stable and less reactive with water, which allowed me to do a little glazing.

This was super helpful in allowing me to glaze a light wash of yellow over my teddy bear, making it appear as though the star is casting a glow on to him.

I stamped each of the elements with matching colored ink and then watercolored them before die cutting them with the companion die. I've listed all of the ink colors used in the supply list below.

I blended a little Lake House ink onto my background and then heat embossed my sentiment in gold. For accents, I added some stars from the Starry Background Die covered with Wink of Stella and a few sequins.

I hope it makes you smile too!

Going Places With Kara

Hi! Kara here. It's the middle of winter here in the Northeastern US. I think that's why I'm gravitating towards these tropical blue/green colors. I used Siren Song, Ocean Drive and Sea Breeze dye ink for my background.

I alternated between these three colors while stamping the square and rectangle solid stamps from Greetings & Salutations. I stamped them in a Tetris like pattern, fitting them together to create a full background.

Once that was done I stamped the sentiment stamp, from the same set, all over. The pattern is bright and busy, but I like it! It's the perfect excuse to use uncolored die cuts, In this situation the black and white stamped die cuts from Going Places stand out because of the bold background rather than getting lost in it. A little vellum helps to diffuse the focal point. I embellished the little scene with a word die cut from Hand Lettered Hello, some stars from the Starry Background Die and clouds from the Cloud Border Die all cut from black cardstock.

Thanks so much for stopping by today! I hope you're weekend is off to a great start!
